Joey Cheek won Olympic Gold and Silver medals in Turin, Italy, in the 500-meter and 1,000-meter speedskating events. Then he donated his $40,000 in U.S. Olympic Committee prize money to Right to Play, a non-profit group focused on youth and sports. Cheek earmarked the money specifically for relief in Darfur, Sudan.

The Greensboro community, following Cheek's example, already has donated nearly $400,000 in Cheek's honor to aid youth locally and through Right to Play.
