Business as Usual

View with QuickTime View with Flash
A Palestinian merchant struggles to maintain his shop, which was started by his father more than 50 years ago. The street once teemed with Palestinian merchants, but trade suffered once Israeli settlers took over apartments on the second and third levels above the vendors' stalls. Sturdy wire fencing was strung overhead by the Palestinians to protect merchants and shoppers from debris tossed by the settlers. Objects caught by the fence range from plastic soda bottles to concrete blocks.
